Humidors
Humidors are boxes or rooms that are maintained at a constant humidity and temperature to store cigars and pipe tobacco. Small wooden or acrylic glass humidors are used for private use while walk-in humidors covering a whole floor are found in cigar shops. All of these humidors use hygrometers to track humidity levels which should ideally be around 65-75%.
In a humidor, the more empty space there is, the faster humidity tends to drop. Humidor boxes are today made from wood board where its interior is of mahogany or Spanish cedar. Before using a humidor, it has to be seasoned or dried using a moist cloth to remove dust.
Then a small container of water is placed in it for about 12 hours, with the lid of the humidor closed. If you find all or most of the water disappear within this time, then you have to repeat this procedure for another 24 hours. It is only when water stops evaporating that the humidor is ready for storing cigars.
